Two new owls discovered in PH: One found in Camiguin Sur, the other in Cebu

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that according to a Michigan State University (MSU) research paper published in Forktail, the Journal of Asian Ornithology, "two new species of owls have been discovered in the Philippines." The owls are the Camiguin Hawk-owl (found in Camiguin Sur) and the Cebu Hawk-owl (which was previously declated extinct due to deforestation).

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that according to a Michigan State University (MSU) research paper published in Forktail, the Journal of Asian Ornithology, "two new species of owls have been discovered in the Philippines." The owls are the Camiguin Hawk-owl (found in Camiguin Sur) and the Cebu Hawk-owl (which was previously declared extinct due to deforestation).

 

The report noted: "According to the paper’s lead author Pam Rasmussen, an assistant professor of zoology at the Msu and assistant curator of mammalogy and ornithology at the MSU Museum, the discovery took years to confirm but was well worth the effort."
