Nancy C. Carvajal of The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that two employees of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) figured in a bloody altercation right inside the NBI headquarters on Taft Avenue, Manila, at around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 30. The two ended up using their service firearms. NBI agent Honorato Ocampo, 43, was shot dead by Oscar Cabebe, whom the report identified as "one of the bureau's security personnel who was assigned to the Witness Protection Program (WPP) unit."

According to the report, Ocampo was brought to Philippine General Hospital where he was declared dead at 2:56 a.m., while the wounded Cabebe was taken to the Manila Medical Center. He is "under the watch" of NBI agents. Ocampo and Cabebe’s violent encounter allegedly started when Ocampo, who was bringing in a suspect, got miffed when Cabebe wouldn’t let him in because he didn’t have "proper documentation."

The report quoted NBI Director Nonnatus Rojas, who "described the occurrence as a ’sad incident’ which could have been resolved with the intervention of cooler heads." The investigation is still ongoing.
