The Straits Times reports that Sakae Sushi chief Douglas Foo recently reiterated the fact that the company "pays its dishwashers SG$3,000 a month." Many people had been skeptical about the information when it first went around last week (September 7), shortly after Foo’s radio interview over Singapore’s UFM100.3. SD$3,000 is a little over ₱100,000.
Â
According to the report Food had remarked that Sake Sushi "has been offering that salary for a year now but there have been few takers" and that "those who did take up the job quit soon after they discovered how tough it is." The report noted that "dishwashers at the restaurant chain work for nine hours a day, six days a week."
Â
The report quoted Foo, who, when asked if the salary was merely a "marketing gimmick," emphasized, "No, it’s true. We’ve had this offer for a year and I can tell you that we are paying our each of our 30 plus dishwashers SG$3,000 a month." Fo expressed that they are looking for Singaporeans or Permanent Residents for the position.
