Alabang Town Center robbery leaves 1 dead, at least 6 wounded

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that on Friday, September 14, security guards at the Alabang Town Center "engaged in a a shootout with armed men at the lobby of the mall’s Madrigal exit at around 10:15 a.m."

 

The report quoted Muntinlupa Police chief Senior Superintendent Ramiro Bauza who revealed that "the suspects had been sitting at the mall’s driveway as an armored van approached." Bauza explained that "when the suspects were confronted by the security guards, they immediately opened fire at the guards and a shootout ensued." Bauza added that "the gunmen also hurled a grenade at a nearby ATM of Sterling Bank of Asia to distract the authorities as they made their escape."

 

The slain robber, identified as Pepito Paler, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Alabang Medical Center.  Security guards Lope Bacobo and Alexander Tablada were injured during the shootout, while four others (not indicated if they were mall employees or patrons) were injured when the robbers hurled a grenade at the Sterling Bank ATM.
