GMA News Online reports that "from January to September, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Philippine Shippers Bureau received about 500 complaints of non-delivery of balikbayan boxes." The report explained: "Some freight forwarders supposedly failed to pay the right duties to the Bureau of Customs so their shipments were held."The report likewise noted: "To report similar cases, call the DTI Hotline at 751-3330 or the Philippine Shippers Bureau at 751-3304."

(Note: Among these firms, Alas Cargo’s reaction was cited in the GMA News Online report. The firm’s general manager Glorina Marzo said they had not received any formal complaint. Marzo also said that they even had customers who want to disprove DTI’s allegations.)
