The Philippine News Agency, via InterAksyon.com, reports that effective Monday, October 1, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas "is going on leave as the Liberal Party (LP) president." Roxas made the announcement on Sunday, September 30, at the Hotel del Rio in Iloilo City during "the reaffirmation of about seven original LP local members and the oath-taking of other new local candidates of Iloilo province."

The report quoted Senator Franklin M. Drilon, who was also present during the event, who explained, "There's no effect on the party. Sec. Roxas needs to do it because of his sensitive position now at the DILG. When he discharges his duty, it's purely because he needs to do it and not because he is the leader of the Liberal Party." Drilon added that "Cong. Jun Abaya as the most probable person to momentarily take over the helm of LP."
