Award-winning director Marilou Diaz-Abaya, 57, dies after long battle with breast cancer

PEP reports that award-winning director Marilou Diaz-Abaya passed away on Monday night, October 8, at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Global City, Taguig City. The 57-year-old director had battled breast cancer.

PEP reports that award-winning director Marilou Diaz-Abaya passed away on Monday night, October 8, at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Global City, Taguig City. The 57-year-old director had battled breast cancer.

 

PEP noted that Diaz-Abaya had directed 21 films in 30 years. Among those films are Brutal (1980), Moral (1982), Karnal (1983), Sa Pusod Ng Dagat (1997), Jose Rizal (1998), Muro Ami (1999), and Bagong Buwan (2001).

 

Diaz-Abaya is survived by her husband Manolo and their two sons, Marc and David.
