Respect the dead, poll chief tells candidates

All Souls’ Day is for remembering the dearly departed and not those who want to be elected, Commission on Elections Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. says.

All Souls’ Day is for remembering the dearly departed and not those who want to be elected, Commission on Elections Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. says.

According to a Philippine News Agency report on InterAksyon.com, Brillantes has reminded poll hopefuls to refrain from campaigning at cemeteries during the long weekend. That includes putting up tarpaulins and streamers bearing their names as well as giving out food and drinks to those visiting their dead.

Brillantes has already received reports of politicians putting up campaign materials to greet thousands of Filipinos who will troop to cemeteries across the country this weekend. The campaign season for the 2013 elections will officially begin in February next year.
