President Benigno Aquino III has scrapped a reclamation project on Pampanga Bay that his predecessor authorized and that has been criticized for allegedly putting the area at risk of flooding.

Joyce Pangco Panares of Manila Standard Today reports Aquino has revoked an administrative order then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo "signed three weeks before she stepped down from office in 2010 [that] includes dike construction, reclamation and a port project in Pampanga Bay and the Lubao-Sasmuan areas." The President said the Department of Public Works and Highways is already working on a Master Plan for Flood Management in that area.

Koalisyon Kontra Kombersyon ng Manila Bay, Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas, and Anakpawis have objected to the project saying it will force people in the area to leave their homes and "will submerge Pampanga, Bulacan and several portions of the National Capital Region in times of heavy rains brought about by frequent typhoons and tropical depression."
