The City Council of San Fernando, Pampanga is set to issue an ordinance banning "epals" from their city.
Jovi De Leon of Sun.Star Pampanga reports the San Fernando City Council will issue an ordinance barring politicians from putting their names and faces on government projects. "This practice is proliferating, abused and misused, especially with the coming elections next year," City Councilor Jimmy Lazatin, who filed a resolution that prompted the council to consider an "anti-epal" ordinance, said.
Lazatin is also quoted as saying "alam natin na maraming tatamaan dito but we must enforce the law. Hopefully, with our ordinance, which will be passed soonest, we could put a stop to this practice." Lazatin is running for vice mayor of San Fernando in the 2013 elections.
