The mayor and the vice mayor of Barili town in Cebu are bickering over who should receive a bus that the provincial government gave the town as a reward, Flornisa Gitgano and Oscar Pineda of Sun.Star Cebu report.

Barili Vice Mayor Marlon Garcia, brother of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Cebu Representative Pablo John Garcia, has criticized Barili Mayor Teresito Mariñas for accepting the bus on behalf of the town. "He was too assuming that he would get the tourist bus," Vice Mayor Garcia said, adding there was no Memorandum of Agreement yet on who would get the bus.

"I expected that I would receive the key as the mayors were requested to go to the tourist bus. As the mayor, I represented the LGU (local government unit), so I took the key because that prize belongs to the town," Mariñas said in Cebuano. Rep. Garcia said, however, that the mayor "can even be charged for theft... Why did he snatch the key away from the supplier?"

Mariñas and Vice Mayor Garcia are running against each other in the Barili mayoral elections in 2013.  The bus was a prize for supporting the province’s environmental program.
