New Bilibid Prison officials fired after November 16 grenade explosion in jail compound

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has ordered top officials of the New Bilibid Prison relieved from duty over security lapses, including a grenade blast at the penitentiary last Friday.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has ordered top officials of the New Bilibid Prison relieved from duty over security lapses, including a grenade blast at the penitentiary last Friday.

Aie Balagtas See of the Philippine Star reports NBP Superintendent Ramon Reyes and his subordinate superintendents Roberto Rabo, Dante Cruz, and Gerardo Aro have been relieved from duty. "Because of successive incidents like this, we can fairly say that some of them - if not most of them - had been compromised already," De Lima said.

The grenade explosion at the NBP, which left at least six inmates injured,  prompted the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a raid on the prison’s maximum security area. They found weapons and drug paraphernalia.
