Bishop urges ’Catholic vote’ against the RH bill, which he says promotes ’ethnic cleansing’

Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles has callled on Catholics to "use their religious beliefs in rejecting candidates who are not following the Church's teachings" by supporting the Reproductive Health bill, ABS-CBNnews.com reports.

Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles has callled on Catholics to "use their religious beliefs in rejecting candidates who are not following the Church's teachings" by supporting the Reproductive Health bill, ABS-CBNnews.com reports.

With versions of the bill undergoing amendments in Congress, Arguelles said it is time for  Catholics to vote according to their faith. "Dapat ipakita natin ang pagiging tunay na Katoliko. Marami diyan ay mga pekeng Katoliko, yun ang naghahari sa atin," he said in the report.

Arguelles and the rest of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines are opposed to the bill. "Ethnic cleansing itong ginagawa nila kung bakit isinusulong ang [reproductive health] bill sa bansa. Gusto nilang ubusin tayo," the report quotes him as saying. Ethnic cleansing refers to the systematic and forced removal of an ethnic group from a territory or country as in the Rwandan Genocide in 1994.

Malacañang refused to comment on Arguelles’s statement, citing the separation of Church and State.
