The Philippine Azkals suffered a 0-1 loss at the hands of the Singapore Lions at the Jalan Besar stadium in Singapore on Wednesday, ending the team’s AFF Suzuki Cup campaign.

ABS-CBNnews.com reports the Lions "frustrated the Azkals’ plays by roughing up the Filipinos, particularly Phil Younghusband, early in the game." The Azkals made two near attempts to score at the 59th and 77th minute but both were denied.

The Azkals have gone to the AFF Suzuki Cup semis before. Winning the game would have brought the team to their first finals clash. "Overall, we think it was a good achievement. Hopefully we could build on this experience and prepare a stronger team for the [AFC] Challenge Cup," Azkals coach Michael Weiss said.
