Boxer Nonito Donaire Jr. sent Mexico’s Jorge Arce into retirement on Sunday with a left hook to the jaw that brought him down for the third time.

Abac Cordero of the Philippine Star reports "Donaire started to celebrate as referee Lawrence Cole attended to the fallen Arce. He knew the Mexican wasn't getting up and ’The Filipino Flash’ climbed the ring post, raising his right fist and soaking it in." Donaire won all four of his fights this year, the report said, adding he might bag the 2012 Fighter of the Year award with his latest victory.

"I have a family to take care of. And I promised my kids that if I lost this fight I will retire," Arce said after the fight.

Donaire’s win comes on the heels of boxer and congressman Manny Pacquiao’s knockout defeat to Juan Manuel Marquez, also a Mexican, two Sundays ago. "There were a lot of fans that said, you got to get him, this is for the Philippines," Donaire said.
