The Reproductive Health bill, which Congress approved earlier this month after 14 years of debate, will be a law before the new year, the Palace said.

Jill Beltran and Virgil Lopez of Sun.Star Online report Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte announced over the weekend that the bill will be signed into law "before the end of the year." The announcement was made over government-run Radyo ng Bayan.

The Reproductive Health bill will be among major laws that President Benigno Aquino III has signed this month. He has approved the Sin Tax Reform bill, which raises taxes on tobacco and alcohol products. The government expects to collect P200 billion from "sin" taxes in five years.

"On Friday, Aquino drew cheers from human rights groups for signing the bill defining and penalizing the crime of enforced or involuntary disappearance," the report also said.
