Filipino boxer Nonito Donaire Jr., who won all his fights this year, has been named Fighter of the Year by ESPN.com, Nate Barretto of the Manila Bulletin reports.

"Donaire, currently the junior featherweight world champion, was described as having a year for the ages after four decisive wins as he moved up weight at the beginning of the year," the report said.

His latest and biggest win, at the Toyota Center in Houston, saw the end of Mexican boxer Jorge Arce’s career.  "It was the exclamation point on a year in which Donaire seized the mantle from (Manny) Pacquiao, his idol, as the Philippines’ best boxer and continued to assert himself as one of the best fighters in the world, period," ESPN sports writer Dan Rafael said.

ESPN also praised Donaire for being the only fighter in the world to agree to random urine and blood testing under the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. "This in an era when every great performance unfortunately comes under the suspicion of possible performance-enhancing drug use - except, of course, Donaire's. His attitude is refreshing," Rafael said.
