Government to spend P1.63 billion for helicopters, ambulances, and trucks for the military

The Armed Forces of the Philippines will be getting billions of pesos in new equipment in its bid to upgrade and send a "louder and clearer" message that it wants to be a modern military.

According to an AP report on Sun.Star Online, "Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said Thursday the country will purchase three multi-purpose AW 109 helicopters for its navy from AugustaWestland SPA of Italy amounting to P1.33 billion."

 

The government has also entered into a contract with South Korean firm Kia Motors Corp. for 60 field ambulances and 12 trucks worth around P300.78 million.
