Senator Panfilo Lacson has dared Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago to bare her finances ahead of a bill she plans to file that will require that salaries and other incomes of ranking government officials be made public.

Bernadette Tamayo of Journal Online reports Lacson does not have a problem with baring his finances but Santiago has to be the first to do so. "You should rise above everybody else. Ikaw ang nag-claim meron kang moral ascendancy. Nakaangat ka kesa sa iba," he said.

This, after Santiago said Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile’s distribution of P1.6 million each to 18 senators was illegal. The money came from the savings of the Senate.

Santiago and Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, and Antonio Trillanes IV only received P850,000 each.

Santiago has returned P250,000. Lacson said Santiago should have returned the entire amount if she feels the money was meant as a bribe so Enrile could keep his position.

"Parang lahat talaga kami (masama). Siya lang matino kasi siya lang nagsauli. Kasi tawag niya bribe. Ganoon ba kami kababaw, na boboto sa Senate President dahil binayaran ng Php250,000 o Php300,000? Foul naman 'yan. Huwag sana ganoon," he said.
