Singer Imelda Papin disqualified from running for Congress

Jet Villa of InterAksyon.com reports that "the second division of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has disqualified singer Imelda Papin from running as congresswoman of the lone district of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan after failing to meet residency requirements."

The report quoted the COMELEC’s decision, part of which read: "The respondent's certificate of candidacy (COC) must be cancelled for making false material representation relating to her residence and for claiming that she is eligible to run for elective office."

 

The report noted that "the petition for disqualification filed by Zosimo Lorenzo of the Arangkada San Joseno political party."  The report also noted that Papin, who was known as the "Jukebox Queen" in the 1970s, popularized a string of hit songs including "Iniibig ko ang Iniibig Mo," "Bakit Ikaw Pa," "Bakit Kaya," "Di Totoo," and "Isang Linggong Pag-ibig."
