UP declares day of mourning for Kristel Tejada, the freshman who committed suicide due to inability to pay tuition fees

Morever, according to the report "UP students, faculty and administrators together with various youth groups will hold a ’Week of Mourning and Protest’ starting March 18 to call for justice for Kristel Tejada, a 16-year-old first year Behavioral Sciences student who took her own life after failing to pay her tuitition debts." Meanwhile, in UP Diliman, youth groups are calling for a campus strike on March 19 and 20. Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) said it will also hold solidarity protests.

 

 

The report noted: "Tejada committed suicide inside her home in Tondo, Manila at around 3 a.m. Friday, two days after she filed for a leave of absence (LOA)." The report also added: "Different campuses nationwide will also have candle-lighting and solidarity assemblies."
