Preliminary research by United Nations reveals 1 in 4 men has raped a woman

Preliminary research by UN reveals that 1 in 4 men has raped a woman reports disturbing statistics from a preliminary study by a United Nations program, surveying 10,000 men in 9 selected sites across 6 Asia Pacific countries. The results reveal that 1 in 2 men has used a form of violence against an intimate partner, 1 in 4 admit to raping a woman, and 1 in 25 has participated in gang rape.

The data is part of a research presented by James Lang (Regional Program Coordinator of Partners for Prevention) entitled, "Why do men use violence and how do we stop it? New evidence on men’s use of violence against women and girls and its uses for enhanced prevention."

Lang’s research is on-going, with the program seeking to address the underlying causes for gender-based violence.
