ABS-CBNNews.com reports that retired Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz criticized the results of a survey done by the Social Weather Stations. The said survey claimed that "4 out of 5 Filipinos or 81 percent are satisfied with their lives." The report further revealed: "SWS said 95 percent of those surveyed among Class ABC were satisfied with their lives while 82 percent in Class D and 74 percent in Class E also expressed satisfaction."
The report noted that in an interview broadcast over Radyo Veritas, Cruz said, "The Philippines is no paradise. Kapag yan ay talagang pinaniwalaan mo, langit na ang Pilipinas, pero sorry hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa langit, malayong malayo pa (If you really believe that, then the Philippines is a paradise but sorry, it is not paradise. Far from it)."
The report also pointed out: "Cruz lamented that private pollsters could lose credibility because the survey results are different from what people are really experiencing. The prelate said a more accurate conclusion is that many poor Filipinos are losing hope and have become content with being poor."
