ABS-CBN correspondent RG Cruz reports that Commission on Elections (COMELC) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. expects the proclamation of new party-list representatives to be done in 10 days as the COMELEC resumed its canvassing of votes for the party-list race on Monday, May 20.
According to the report, the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) suspended the canvassing for party-list groups last week in order to speed up the proclamation of the winning senators. The Board also changed some procedures that needed to be followed when tallying the votes so that the canvassing process will end sooner.
The report further explained that "a total of 58 congressional seats-equivalent to 20 percent of the number of 234 district representatives as mandated by law" have to be filled with party-list representatives. The article noted, however, that "determining the winners in the party-list race is not as simple" as determining which group achieved the highest number of votes in the election.
