InterAksyon.com reports that Central Mindanao has been named as the top coffee-producing region in the country by AgriPinoy High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP).
The report quoted Region 12 HVCDP Regional Coordinator Danilo Centillas as saying that the region produced 27,869 metric tons of coffee last year. The high yield, he said, may be attributed to the "assistance extended by the Department of Agriculture (DA) like the dispersal of high variety planting materials and seedlings."
Aside from being the top coffee producer in the country, Central Mindanao, which is composed of the provinces of North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato and Saranggani and the cities of Koronadal, Cotabato, Kidapawan, Tacurong and Gen. Santos, was named second nationwide in the production of pineapple and rubber, and third in the production of bananas for export for 2012.
