ABS-CBNNews.com reports that the Los Angeles Times has come out with an unflattering article about Boracay on Sunday, with the author describing her visit to the island as "disappointing" and complaining about the "crowding and overdevelopment" taking place in it.

According to the report, "The article, with the title 'Trouble in party paradise: Boracay Island in Philippines,' was written by Catharine Hamm, who visited the island last year. The subhead: 'Crowding and overdevelopment make for a disappointing visit to Boracay Island, Philippines.'" The article noted that while Hamm heaped praises on Boracay's fine white sand and "bathtub-warm waters," and found the people "quite wonderful," she criticized various things on the island during her stay, including the roads that look like "pot-holed obstacle courses," the "badly damaged" coral and the "parade of people" that she regularly saw, which ranged from tourists and merchants to beggars.

Aside from frowning upon what she saw on the island, Hamm also expressed disappointment with her stay at the posh Discovery Shores hotel, which the article noted "was voted by Travel & Leisure the fourth best hotel in the world." She disliked, among others, the taste of the pandan tea offered to her upon checking in and the design of her room's linen. She also said that the masseuse that was supposed to service her that day was "MIA" or missing in action.
