Dexter San Pedro of InterAksyon.com reports that "Malacañang has welcomed the decision of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to form a political party and join the elections in 2016."

The report quoted deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte as saying in a radio interview that the MILF's plan to participate in the 2016 elections is understandable since "the road map towards the establishment of the Bangsamoro ends in 2016." Valte added that the Palace expects the "crafting of a new law that will establish the Bangsamoro, a political entity that will replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao" to be finished by the end of President Benigno Aquino III's term.

MILF chairman Murad Ebrahim earlier announced that the organization will start forming its own political party this year. The party, he said, will be the MILF's arm "for the political process."
