ABS-CBNNews.com reports that "three people were killed while five others were injured in an explosion that hit Two Serendra condominium at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig at around 8 p.m. on Friday night, May 31." The information was confirmed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday morning, June 1. The NDRRMC had reported earlier that six people were killed in the blast. They then issued a correction which brought down the body count to three.
The report noted: "According to the NDRRMC, among those killed were three men inside Unit 501 at the Two Serendra building and three men on board an Abenson delivery van which was crushed by large chunks of concrete that fell from the condo unit." Initial reports revealed that at least 10 units at Two Serendra’s 5th floor were damaged. Tenants of the building were evacuated right after the incident.
The report added: "Two men, two women and a 9-year-old child who were all on board a Hyundai Starex van were injured in the blast. They are seeking treatment at St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City. The victims have yet to be identified."
Investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the blast. ABS-CBNNews.com revealed: "A source connected to the team handling the incident said the condominium unit where the blast originated was being used by a transient occupant. He recounted the owner of the unit allowed the yet-to-be-identified occupant to to use it from May 31 to June 9." President Benigno Aquino and Interior Secretary Mar Roxas arrived at the scene hours after the explosion. Roxas asked the public not to speculate on what caused explosion.
