Reuters (via ABS-CBNNews.com) reports that the number of jobless Filipinos jumped from 2.89 million in January 2013 to 3.09 million in April. The jobless rate of 7.5 percent is "the highest in three years, according to data from the National Statistics Office (NSO)."

According to the report, "the unemployment rate is the highest since April 2010, when it stood at 8%." NSO noted in a statement that while the number of jobless Filipinos increased, the number of underemployed Filipinos dropped from an "estimated 7.93 million as of January" to 7.25 million in April. According to the government agency, the Philippines' total labor force as of April 2013 stands at 40.9 million workers.
