Sen. Pia Cayetano wants "job age discrimination" eliminated
She says age shouldn’t be a factor when it comes to hiring employees.
ABS-CBN correspondent Ryan Chua reports that Senator Pia Cayetano has filed a bill that would "penalize employers, labor contractors, and other organizations that will discriminate against hiring an individual on the basis of his or her age."
The report quoted Cayetano as saying on Tuesday, July 16, that "age should not be a factor in assessing one’s qualification for a job." The senator's proposed Anti-Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 2013 prohibits employers from "publishing ads suggesting age preferences, requiring applicants to declare their age, declining applications based on age, and laying off old employees." Employers who violate the law will be fined P50,000 up to P500,000 or face imprisonment for a period of 3 months to 2 years.
