Dubai fights obesity by offering gold as reward for those who lose weight
Now, that’s what you call incentive!
Agence France-Presse (via ABS-CBNNews.com) reports that Dubai officials are offering gold coins as an incentive for its residents to lose weight.
The report explained that the Dubai has launched a campaign called "Your Weight in Gold" that promises "one gramme of gold for every kilo shed, provided a minimum of two kilos (4.6 pounds) of weight are lost by August 16." The contest, which coincides with the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, is supposedly aimed at curbing the incidence of obesity in Dubai.
According to the rules, the three individuals who lost the most weight "will each receive a gold coin worth 20,000 dirhams ($5,449) through a lucky draw."
