Manila mayor Erap Estrada says Paul McCartney should stop interfering in controversy involving Manila Zoo elephant Mali
Bottom line: Mali’s still all alone at the zoo.
The Philippine Star's Jose Rodel Clapano reports via ABS-CBNNews.com that Manila mayor Joseph Estrada said music icon Sir Paul McCartney "might as well change his citizenship from British to Filipino if he wants to interfere with purely Filipino affairs" such as the controversy including Mali, the lone elephant at the city zoo. The report explained that Estrada issued the statement during a telephone interview on Saturday (July 20).
The report noted: "The mayor [reacted] after McCartney wrote a letter to President Aquino urging him to transfer Mali from the Manila Zoo to an elephant sanctuary in Thailand."
As proof that the Philippines is the best place for Mali, Estrada said the owner of the Ocean Park Hotel, a certain "Mr. Lim," has agreed to invest P500 million for the total rehabilitation of the Manila Zoo.
