National Police Commission reminds cops to wear proper uniforms
They can wear barongs or suits on special occasions.
Manila Sandard Today's Ferdinand Fabella reports that the National Police Commission (Napolcom) has recently issued new guidelines regarding the proper uniforms policemen should wear while serving as protective detail of top government officials and very important persons (VIPs).
The report explained that under Memorandum Circular No. 2013-006, "all police security personnel must wear the General Office Attire-Type B while securing VIPs during official functions, and the athletic/multi-use uniform worn with the PNP-issued pants during disaster, relief and rescue operations." Some of the VIPs who are automatically given security detail according to Napolcom's rules include the President, Vice President and the Supreme Court Chief Justice.
Napolcom Vice Chairman Eduardo Escueta said VIPs may require their police escorts to wear barong, bush jacket, suit or any suitable clothes "during official functions in critical areas where wearing of police uniform may cause unnecessary threat or danger, and also during private or social functions" provided that these clothes are given to them by the VIP.
