Philip Goldberg named as new U.S. amabassador to PH
He takes over from Harry Thomas Jr.

Inquirer.net reports that United States President Barack Obama "has nominated a State Department intelligence official for the next United States ambassador to the Philippines." This was announced on August 1.

The report quoted the US Embassy in Manila as saying that Philip Goldberg, the Assistant Secretary at the Bureau for Intelligence and Research (INR) at the US Department of State, will replace outgoing US Ambassador to the Philippines Harry Thomas Jr. once he gets confirmation from the US Congress. Goldberg is a diplomat who has been assigned to several countries in Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America throughout his career at the US Department of State.
