COMELEC puzzled by too many registrants for barangay and SK elections
Their guess is as good as ours.
Manila Bulletin's Leslie Ann Aquino reports that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has been puzzled about the sudden surge in the number of people who want to register as voters for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls in October.
The report explained that Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. "cannot understand" why so many people still want to register when the last elections were held just two months ago. He said he understands that young people below 18 years old may only register now, but he is baffled why those above 18-the regular voters-suddenly want to seek a transfer of their registration.
Brillantes suspects that those who want to run as barangay captains want voters to transfer their registrations so the latter can vote for them. " That's why we don't want to give an extension anymore. There is something wrong why there are so many registrants when we just finished an election less than two months ago," he said.
