Bonifacio Global City belongs to Pateros, says municipality’s Mayor Joey Medina
It’s a territorial dispute that may blow up to epic proportions.
Carmela G. Lapeña of GMA News Online reports that the municipality of Pateros is also claiming Bonifacio Global City (BGC) as part of its territory. Pateros, the only municipality in Metro Manila, is joining the recent "tug of war" over the 729-hectare area. The Court of Appeals recently decreed that BGC is part of Makati and not Taguig.
The GMA News Online report revealed that on Wednesday, August 7, Pateros Mayor Joey Medina pointed out that BGC "was a part of Pateros in the late 1800s to the early 1900s." He also added that Pateros’ claim included Barangays Pembo, Comembo, and Rembo.
Medina explained that Pateros filed a case to claim the said areas back in 1991. The case, which was filed at the Pasig Regional Trial Court, was elevated to the Supreme Court in 2009. However, the case was returned to the Pasig RTC. Pateros was told that there needed to be "a council-to-council dialogue between Taguig, Makati, and Pateros" before the case could progress.
