LTO chief Virginia Torres admits going to the casino after video showing her with slot machine goes viral
She says she got attracted to the slot machine’s pretty lights.
ABS-CBN correspondent Atom Araullo reports that Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Virgina Torres "has admitted going to a casino after a video clip of her playing at a slot machine went viral."
According to the report, Torres admitted she tried out the slot machine at a casino when she went there after having dinner with a friend because she was amused with the machine’s lights. She noted, however, that she left immediately after paying the bill and that the visit happened "way back."
Based on the Memorandum circular 8 issued by the Malacañang in 2001, government officials, rank-and-file employees, soldiers and police officials are barred from entering casinos. Although the Civil Service Commission (CSC) has raised the possibility of Torres being suspended for up to six months "if she is found violating government regulations against going to a casino," it said this can only happen if Malacañang or the Ombudsman decides to sanction the LTO chief.
