Death toll in Cebu MV St. Thomas Aquinas-MV Sulpicio Express Siete sea mishap rises to 52
The tragedy drags on.
ABS-CBNNews.com reports that "the death toll from the sea mishap in Cebu on Friday night, August 16, has reached 52." The MV St. Thomas Aquinas (an inter-island vessel with over 800 passengers) had sunk after it collided with the MV Sulpicio Express Siete, a cargo ship.
The report noted: "There are 68 people still reported missing. Bad weather and an oil spill have hampered divers from pursuing further search operations, however." The report also noted that teh authorities have not yet been able to launch full-scale diving operations.
