Ex-MMDA chair Bayani Fernando says "egg structure" across NAIA was built for ₱50 million, not ₱390 million

For the record, it’s called "Layag Islas" or "Islands in Flight."

GMA News Online reports that former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman has denied that the "egg structure" in the rotunda across Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was built for P390 million, contrary to the claim made in a blog entry circulating on Facebook.

Fernando explained that the structure, called "Layag Islas," was the award-winning architectural design by a group of architects, who joined the NAIA Terminal 3 Landmark Rotundas Design Competition. It was built in 2010. The entire area encompassed by the structure is called Circulo del Mundo.

"A two-year old blog post of design consultant and entrepreneur Ito Kish has resurfaced. The blog entry, entitled ’The 390 million peso Egg of Naia 3, has been circulating on Facebook, while a photo of the structure from Anonymous Incorporated alleging its P390 million price tag has been shared more than 2,000 times on the social networking site," the report said.
