289 congressmen agree to slash ₱10,000 from their salaries to donate to Zamboanga residents
It would be even better if the clashes stopped.
Christian Esguerra of the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that "the House of Representatives has recently adopted a resolution for its members to donate ₱10,000 from their own salaries to aid the victims of the violence in Zamboanga.
According to the report, as much as ₱2.89 million can be raised for Zamboanga residents since contributions of P10,000 have been pledged by each of the 289 representatives. The amount will be deducted from their own salaries.
The resolution indicated that the money will be used to help in the rehabilitation of Zamboanga province, which has been severely affected by the ongoing fight between Muslim rebels and government troops.
