Pentagon suspends one of its Twitter accounts after joke about Davao City blasts was posted
Sometimes, people forget to be human.
Philstar.com reports that the United States Department of Defense-which is popularly referred to as "The Pentagon"-has "suspended the Twitter account of its anti-improvised explosive device (IED) group after a joke about the recent twin blasts in Davao City was posted."
The report explained that the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization’s Twitter account (@JIEDDO) posted a tweet after blasts rocked two mall cinemas in Davao City on September 16 which said: "Were they re-showing Gigli? Bomb explosions occur at 2 movie theaters in the Philippines." Gigli is a 2003 Hollywood film starring Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, which was considered as a "box office bomb" for its poor sales.
Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said on Twitter that he has directed the suspension the @JIEDDO account after the incident. He said the "inappropriate and offensive" posts made by the group were "plainly unacceptable."
