Rep. Neptali Gonzales II admits buying ₱6 million worth of food from Jollibee for 2 years but says there's nothing wrong with it
That’s a whole lot of burgers!
ABS-CBNNews.com's Kathlyn Dela Cruz reports that House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II admitted on Wednesday, September 25 that he purchased P6 million worth of food from Jollibee from 2007 to 2009, but insisted these were not anomalous because they all went to his constituents in Mandaluyong City.
According to the report, Gonzales issued the comment after Senator Jinggoy Estrada revealed in a privilege speech on the same day that the congressman was cited in a Commission on Audit (COA) report as having made the multi-million food purchase in the span of two years. Estrada asked why Gonzales was not questioned by the COA despite the transactions. "Dahil ba miyembro ng Liberal Party? Nagtatanong lang po (Is it because he’s a member of the Liberal Party? I’m just asking)," he said.
For his part, Gonzales said: "Ang hindi nabanggit ni Sen. Estrada dun, maraming transactions yun. Ibig sabihin hindi naman isang araw na bumili ka ng P6 million [na Jollibee]." The congressman said the food was bought for his constituents during occasions such as birthday parties.
