Filipino food named one of the 10 Most Exciting Emerging Cuisines Nationwide by Zagat Survey

Along with Icelandic, New Zealand, Yunnan, and more

( Zagat, a company that has been curating the restaurant experiences of customers in over 70 countries for the past 34 years, published an article on September 9 listing the 10 Most Exciting Emerging Cuisines Nationwide-nationwide being the United States.


Joining Icelandic, Hawaiian, Israeli, and Gonzo Fusion is Filipino cuisine which appears eighth on the unranked survey. Writer Jenny Miller describes Filipino fare as "underrated," and attributes its rising reputation to Filipino-American Top Chef contestants Lea Cohen, Paul Qui, and Dale Talde. Cohen, who placed sixth on Season 5, runs Pig & Khao, which serves Filipino-inspired dishes, while Season 9 winner Qui integrates some Pinoy flavor in his eponymous Austin-based restaurant.


Also mentioned in the article are New York’s Maharlika restaurant (and its two sister eateries), Milkfish in New Orleans, Kain-bigan in California, and the Lumpia World food truck in Seattle. Max’s Restaurant is also set to open in Las Vegas this year.
