US Embassy in PH logs off from Twitter, cites lack of funds due to US government shutdown
Yes, they have funds dedicated to the management of their Twitter account.
Tarra Quismundo of the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that the United States embassy in Manila has suspended its Twitter account, @usembassymanila, following the partial government shutdown in the US.
The report explained that the embassy "redirected its followers to the Twitter account of its home agency, the US Department of State (@StateDept)" in its last tweet posted on Friday, October 4. "Due to the lapse in appropriations, this twitter feed will not be updated regularly. Please visit @StateDept for updates," the embassy said.
The US government has partially shut down beginning October 1 after the US congress failed to pass a new budget for the new fiscal year. "The shutdown has furloughed nearly a million American government workers and forced the closure of national parks, veterans' offices and Nasa operations," the article said.
