Are you feeling this or not?
The Manila Standard Today reports that Congressman Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr. of Cebu’s 1st District is pushing for the addition of English subtitles to Filipino-language shows "to boost the average Filipino's proficiency in the world's lingua franca."
According to the report, Gullas said putting English subtitles to local shows will contribute to enhancing Filipinos' learning and mastery of the foreign language, considering the mass appeal of the programs. He noted that there is a need for Filipinos to improve their English proficiency in order to have an advantage when it comes to seeking employment opportunities.
Gullas, the vice chairman of the House committee on higher and technical education, is also the author of a House bill "seeking to reinforce the use of English in all school levels to make the labor force highly competitive."
