Jeane Napoles charged with tax evasion, BIR says she owes ₱32 million
What does mommy have to say about this, baby girl?
Christine Avendano and Michelle Remo of the Philippine Daily Inquirer report that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has charged Jeane Catherine Napoles, the 23-year-old daughter of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles, with tax evasion for failing to declare any income since 2008 despite having the means to acquire prime properties in the Philippines and abroad.
According to the report, the BIR "was suing Jeane for P32.06 million in tax liability, inclusive of interests, and surcharges, broken down into P31.38 million in 2011 and P680,000 in 2012. This was because she did not declare an income when she was able to acquire and register in her name real estate in taxable years 2011 and 2012." Among the properties the BIR found to be registered in her name were the P54.7 million unit at the posh Ritz Carlton Residences in the United States and a farm lot in Bayambang, Pangasinan that was purchased for P1.49 million.
BIR Commissioner Kim Henares said that while the bureau estimates Jeane’s net income to be around P54.7 million based on the properties under her name, her wealth may be even bigger because she is known to hold lavish parties and live a luxurious lifestyle.
