UST basketball coach Pido Jarencio asks netizens not to curse Aljon Mariano for UAAP loss, says "Ako na lang"
He’s taking one for the team.
ABS-CBNNews.com reports that University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers head coach Pido Jarencio "took the blame" for the team’s defeat in last Saturday’s (October 12) final match against the De La Salle Green Archers for this season’s UAAP men’s basketball championship. He also and asked Thomasians not to be angry with player Aljon Mariano for missing crucial shots during the game.
The report explained that in his official Twitter account, the outspoken coach pleaded with netizens not to curse Mariano but to vent their ire over the loss on him.
Jarencio did not give an interview to the media after the finals match but he did go on Twitter to say the loss was his fault. "To my beloved thomasians pls stop cursing aljon, dnt blame him ako na lng pls. win or lose we r one," Jarencio tweeted. Mariano drew flak after the game because he "misfired on a potential game-winning three-pointer for UST at the end of regulation, then committed a turnover late in the overtime period that eventually led to Almond Vosotros hitting the go-ahead jump shot for La Salle."
