Students from Ateneo and UP may enjoy 6-month break as the schools consider changing their academic calendars
But nothing’s final yet.
InterAksyon.com's Tricia Aquino reports that students at the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University might enjoy a one-time five- to six-month vacation as early as next year, or on 2015 as the two schools prepare to synchronize their academic calendars with the ones used by ASEAN schools.
The report explained that under the new academic calendar planned by the two universities, school calendars will "likely shift to September to May or June, and August to May, respectively." According to UP Vice President for Public Affairs Prospero de Vera III, the Philippines is among the remaining three countries in the ASEAN region whose academic calendars differ from that of the rest.
Ateneo president Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin S.J. meanwhile said that Ateneo is still consulting with stakeholders-which include "faculty, students, administrators, parents"-regarding the proposed changes to the academic calendar. But he guaranteed it will not happen on 2014-2015, the next school year, Feedback is sought online through www.ateneo.edu/feedback-form.
