PAGASA predicts cold weather until March
Let’s hope that it lasts that long, indeed.
Christopher Lloyd T. Caliwan of Philippine News Agency (via InterAksyon.com) reports that on Thursday, October 17, "the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) declared the onset of cold weather associated with northeast monsoon or hanging amihan in the country."
The report noted: "In a statement, PAGASA said the development and strengthening of high pressure areas over mainland China have shifted the wind direction over Luzon to northeasterlies, bringing cold and dry air over the northern part of the country. These meteorological conditions normally signify the start of the northeast monsoon season."
The report added that "the northeast monsoon or "hanging amihan" is the mass of cold air blowing into the country starting October and usually lasts until early March."
