5 people suspected of stealing Luneta sculpture worth ₱500,000

Will the statue ever be recovered?

ABS-CBN News’ Zyann Ambrosio (via ABS-CBNNews.com) reports that there’s a new development in the case of the stolen bronze crown sculpture made by renowned artist Juan Sajid Imao.  The sculpture, which was discovered missing inside the Rizal Park’s Kanlungan ng Sining, is worth P500,000.

Police are saying that "five people could be involved in the theft." The report noted: "The missing sculpture weighs approximately 80 kilos, according to the Manila Police Department’s (MPD) Theft and Robbery Section." However, the names of the suspects were not divulged by the police.

Meanwhile, "the National Parks Development Committee and the Arts Association of the Philippines (AAP) are checking all angles in the theft, especially because there was an ongoing construction in the area by a private contractor." For the record, the police have cleared the contractor.
